Questions for Country Sampler

Started by Sampler Staff
Last Posted to on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 3:33:52 PM by Sampler Staff

We monitor the message boards frequently, but we don’t monitor every
single thread or post, so buried questions may not be addressed. So, if
you have a question for Country Sampler’s editorial staff about
something you saw in an issue of the magazine, please post it under the
“Ask Country Sampler” section of the forum, or email us directly at
country@sampler.emmis.com. We try hard to get to everyone’s questions,
but we’ll be able to respond much more quickly if your inquiry is easy
to find.

Also, if you are having technical difficulties, we encourage you to
email us directly. We no longer have an on-site Webmaster, so all
technical issues are routed to our corporate support staff, which can
prolong the response time. We greatly appreciate your patience!

Thanks for visiting the Country Sampler forum!
Country Sampler staff

Started by Scrappy
Last Posted to on Sunday, August 15, 2010 5:29:52 PM by AmyB143

Macon, MO is my FAVORITE place to shop! I used to live in that area and I shopped in Macon all the time! In fact, most of my home is decorated with treasures found in Ben Franklin! That is my ALL-TIME favorite store!! Ben Franklin in MO is not like others. Many are similiar to the 5 and dime shops of yesteryear, but this one is a country dreamland. Macon is a great little town and you can keep busy and have fun there for a day! When I go into Ben Franklin, my husband always cringes...lol. I just went back this past weekend and spent alot of money! Definitely well-worth a trip!

Gladewater Texas Prim Shop

I was there yesterday and thank God I only had $50 in my pocket and no checkbook with me. I could have gone crazy in that place. It's a very small store but the pieces she has in there are really sweet and prim prim prim.

I couldn't think of it to save my neck! I dearly LOVE that wrap around porch! It was much too cold to sit out on it for lunch when we went. Man it seems like 3 years since we was there!

Did you all have any trouble finding it?

I'm so glad you got to go! Aren't their quilts just awesome? When I went I was looking for the wedding ring quilt in a king size, but they didn't have one. I could not believe all the nice handwork in them!

Talking about the bags of snacks, I bought a couple bags of the homemade corn chips. I got in the car and opened them up heading to the cabin and when DH tried them, he turned around and we had to go get some more of those. LOL I wound up bringing like 8-10 bags of those things home with us. I put them in the freezer to keep them from growing stale on me. My sister just had a fit over them and we called the store to see IF they would ship us some more and they said no, they didn't ship. I bought some of the soaps, some of the knives, I think it's Rada brand. I had gotten a few of those in Gulf Shores, Alabama when we were over there last. Those are the best knives I have ever used! I just love em! So I bought a whole box of them and a few of the loose ones they had in the boxes as well at the General Store. I had planned on ordering some from the knife shop there in Alabama but when I found these I just bought them from the Mennonite ladies.

Oh yeah if everyone was as kind and nice as they are and their work, just awesome!!!! The cabin we stayed in was from one of the Mennonite couples and Martin, the husband built the cabins! He has 60 acres he bought a few years back and he built the first cabin himself. He built a 4 1/2 acre pond as well. He pushed it himself with the bulldozer I think it's called. All the cabins are nestled in hemlocks and are close to the pond. You can't see one cabin from the other cabins, all secluded. When he got the first one built, he started working on the second cabin. Then when we were there that Jan. he was building the third cabin which he said would be his last one. He and his family, his wife and children rent them and keep them clean etc. Anyway I had to go on their site and look at the last one he built since he let us go in it a couple times while he was there working on it. He was just the nicest man you'll ever meet! We had the best time ever the week we were there. DH told me to decide on where I wanted to go for out 32nd wedding annv. so that's where I chose. I searched on the internet for weeks before deciding on Monterey and the Mennonite community and I don't think I could have searched the whole world over and found a neater place. So laid back and no hurrying around etc.

As you can tell I really really liked those people!

That is too funny! Our house is located on a road just off Hwy 68! I am familiar with the big Hwy 127 yard sale that occurs later in the summer but not this one! We plan to move up there sometime the week of the 8th. Danville is only a few miles west of Perryville. That is probably where I'll be doing my grocery & Walmart shopping. I'm sure there will lots for us to explore in the area. I'll have to check out Neicie's post to she what she found in Danville. I know there is some kind of Shaker village or museum on a sign in Harrodsburg which is also just a few miles from where we'll be. I agree ... would be fun to visit : ) Thanks again for all the info!

Blessings,

Ramsey House is about 50 miles from me. I do not think I am related to that family, but could not swear I am not connected-most of my ancestors settled in the more mountainous counties- Cocke, Sevier, Blount. It is beautiful, and it is a very easy drive from where I live- you do not even have to go into Knoxville.

It sounds like you are going to be coming down thru the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area? You will find many antique shops along Rt. 104 (Ridge Road). You can also check out many of the towns along the Erie Canal, such as Lockport, Medina, Brockport, ect. I have never been to Lockport, so I can't be sure, but most of the other towns along there have cute little main streets, with shops galore. As long as your going to be near Lockport, I would definitely check it out. Have you seen the cobblestone streets there? Oh, if you decide to travel Rt. 104, be sure to keep an eye out for all the historical cobblestone houses. If you make it as far as Greece, then you will definitely have to go to the Craft-Antique Co-op. It's a must see!

It's truly amazing when you're there.

Duluth is a neat place with Lake Superior and several lighthouses you can tour.

Gooseberry Falls is pretty, you can hike and there are places to stop and eat along the way.

Fort Snelling is neat too, I haven't been there, but we are planning on going out there.

Both St.Paul and Minneapolis are beautiful cities, St.Paul is very old, so there are many historic buildings.

Plus, we're the land of 10,000 lakes, plenty of water to go around, places to fish.

There's Walker Art Center, with the famous cherry on the spoon, which has been recently hauled away for a makeover.

The Arboretum has beautiful gardens, and birds.

I may think of a few more things, but that's what first comes to mind.

I guess I personally am not much for traveling, I mean, it doesn't get me all worked up. I get where I'm going, I'm sort of one-track minded that way. I think because I traveled alot growing up, it's not that exciting to me, unless I'm getting to see family.

Sorry gals, guess I'm kind of a homebody.
