Last week I stumbled across a primitive shop in a town not all that far from here (one hour) while searching through Yahoo Yellow Pages.  I have been looking forward to visiting this shop & today was the day.  It was on a little side street in an old house with the sign out front ... Pine Cone Primitives.  But when we walked inside, there was not even one primitive item in the entire shop!  There were a total of 7 rooms.  One was nothing but cutesy baby stuff.  One room had Christmas things but again nothing primitive & you had to really stretch in some instances to even consider the stuff country.  Lots of knick-knack things, floral note cards, floral table runners, rainbow colored pottery, & little linen tea towels painted with floral designs.  That's what I remember mostly.  A very, very wasted trip   : (

Blessings,

Shirlee

Shirlee, Sorry you didn't have any luck.  They should not call their store primitive if it isn't!  ~Dan~

That would be soooo very discouraging, that's for sure!! I can't imagine anyone naming their shop that, if they don't carry any primitive items...  I wonder if somewhere down the road they are planning on doing so??

They would have to have one big clearance sale to get rid of all the Victorian looking & cutesy stuff if they are intending to make the shop prim one day.  If it had been my sister-in-law who had gone there, she would've asked the salesperson "Hey!  Where's the primitive stuff?" ... but I kind of keep a low profile & therefore don't know anything ... lol!

Oh Shirlee - I've been to so many of those kinds of shops out there!

I think some store owners miss-use the term Primitive don't you????

Maybe they are cashing in on the term just to get people into their shop cuz who wants to go into a shop that says...."Lots of This and That and Not Much of Anything".....lol

How frustrating Me and my mouth would have been asking where are the primitives LOL

I guess I've been fortunate since living here. Even our darling floral shops one is called Roses & Ribbons Florals and gifts and have a very nice selection including  my favorite "fixins" It was a pleasant surprise when I walked in the first time. I would have not known by their name though.

I would have been flipping pizzed off.  What's up with that name?  It has absolutely NOTHING to do with primitives.  It makes no sense.  What a couple of goobers.

How are they drawing people into their business if the name doesn't reflect their wares?  Ridiculous.

I guess I have missed some of these posts. That would be upsetting. It does seem that there are alot of places that put "primitive" in their title, yet they are clueless to what primitives are! I know I have been disappointed on a few occasions. Cutesy is not my thing! The more beat up and grungy~the better I like it!

Shirlee, Sorry for your wasted time, energy and gas...........You ever come to KY visit the Arts and Crafts capitol of KY located in Berea KY. We have a small town but you could not get to all the stores in one day........and it all is hand crafetd furniture and primitives, everything from willow bent furniture, hand carved bowls, rustic furniture, and other items.

Rich, do they have a Women's College there as well?  I have a cookbook from Kentucky and that name sounds familiar.  We stopped in this town years ago and I bought the cookbook (which is great).  the cookbook is in storage otherwise I would have checked the name of the town.  I remember a very quiant little town.

It's not just shop owners! Have you seen some of the CRAP on eBay and Etsy (and other sites) that's listed as primitive. Makes me wanna puke!
