OK! It's official, I am a true junker. When Dh got home this morning after taking care of his Dad, I mentioned the new jelly cupboard in the back of our SUV. He says, oh, speaking of a cupboard, I saw one sitting on the side of the road, lets go look at it. Well girls, I still cringe when I think of going to look at someone's junk sitting on the side of the road, but I do agree to go. I do know I am a true "junker" now, because, when we were heading down the road towards it and I saw it, I thought, OK, this might not be so bad! WELL, another car was coming in the opposite direction and I found my stomach tightening and I found myself blurtting out to my DH, HURRY UP, there's another car coming!!! OH MY GOODNESS! I've lost it. I see this cupboard and I know it must be somewhat heavy, but I remind DH that I CANNOT get out of the car, and to HURRY, once again. Poor guy, I heard the grunting sound from my front seat and deceided I'd better "put my big girl panties on" (as someone's signature here so reminds me), and get out to help this poor man!!! Well, we got it in the SUV and it is now sitting in my living room. That isn't where it's going to stay, but I figure if I leave it there, it will drive me nuts and I'll have to paint and destress it soon. I think I'm going to put it in our bedroom for our TV. Since the room is the Chicago Bears colors, I thought about navy blue. Any suggestions? Here's a few pictures.

Thanks Susan and Amy! I plan on going to Lowe's, Menard's, or somewhere like that I look at a product called Stix that someone had mentioned using on here. This cabinet isn't the real wood, so I need to prime it first with something to make the paint stick, and I really don't want to sand it!!

You couldn't have picked out a more perfect piece for your bedroom TV if you had gone shopping for a week!! And to just find it on the side of the road! How lucky is that! Wow! Once you paint it and prim it up, I don't think it will matter that it's not real wood! And think of the money you saved! Great job!

Thanks girls. The cabinet is still sitting here in the living room, untouched. I haven't made it to pick up the Stix yet, it's raining pretty good out today, so I've deceided to just stay in. Dh measured for our TV and it will fit, but he informed me that a flat screen would probably fit better!! LOL. Looks like that's what I'll get him for Christmas. Hmmm, do you girls suppose I should change my name to Jax the junker?!!! LOL.

Good grief Karen, I'm sure it was out for trash, at least I think!! LOL. If it was for the other car, they didn't stop us from taking it. Believe me, here in Galesburg, if you want to get rid of something, you just sit it out on the curb and it's gone in minutes, SOOOOO, if they didn't want a "Junker" to come by, they should have put it in the back. LOL.

Thanks again everyone. So far I've put one coat of the liquid sandpaper on. The directions don't really say how many you need to, just to continue to saturate your cloth and wipe. I'm still trying to deceide on a blue, and the destressing method I'll use.

I'm amazed at what people find curbside. That cabinet is wonderful, real wood or not. From the picture, it looks in really good shape and will be a real showpiece when painted. Congrats on a great find.

Oh girls, I'm so excited. I got the cabinet painted yesterday. Now all I have to do is distress it. I really like how it's turning out, and I'm a little scared to mess it up. It sure looks a lot richer painted, even our thirteen year old, said it looked so nice. I'll post pictures soon.

Oh my gosh that is unbelieveable that someone would toss that! Blows my mind! BUT am soooo happy for you! I actually got something for free today to. I could have gotten this really cute cabinet BUT I don't have the space for it and we had the dog with us as well. I would have had to let the back seats down and I just didn't have any room for it in the house so I had to pass it up.
Anyway the free thing I did get though was a Kodak 5100 all in one printer. It even had the directions and everything with it. Looks very nice and it was free.
