I live in the Hudson Valley, specifically in Kingston, but the surrounding area has alot to offer.
We have one of nicest county fairs in Dutchess County during the month of August. There also is
a garlic festival in Saugerties, NY that is now becoming famous and right next to that is a
horse farm/arena/show area called HITS. I haven't been there yet but I heard it is really nice.
We have the New Paltz area which has Mohonk Mountain house which has been on the travel
channel (www.mohonk.com/) and is quite stunning all year long.
There also is the Beekman Arms Inn which I think is the oldest Inn in America, located in
Rhinebeck, NY (Dutchess County), see www.beekmandelamaterinn.com for lovely pics
of a true colonial inn. I have gone there for Mother's day brunch and it was quite
lovely.
Also my city of Kingston (www.ci.kingston.ny.us/) was the state's first capital (but Albany is now
the capital). There was a civil war here and we have re-enactments on the anniversary.
There are many old stone houses to tour. The Hudson River has alot to offer also.
So there is really alot of history to our area and if you are ever in the area check these places out.
