I drove by a house this morning that had a star on a pole (wrought iron?) in their garden. It look so cute!! I have never seen that before so I wonder where you get them. She appears to like country/prim stuff as there was another garden decoration that had a rusty tin crow nailed on a board with grapevine wrapped around it...that was cute too.
This house used to be blah and for some reason, they have all of a sudden started cleaning it up and it looks so nice. They had a huge pine tree right on the corner of the house (which is also on the corner of the street) which they had removed so it opened up the house. Then they had a new porch put on, new porch furniture and a small wooden wheelbarrow with flowers and a small ladder (like the one I got) with grapevine wrapped around her's too. Then she has been planting new flowers all along the side of the house (that you couldn't see before because of the pine tree). This is where I saw the star. Her house is white so the star really stood out against it. It is so nice to see someone clean up their yard and make it so pleasant to look at. I drive by this house twice a day.

Jill, do you think you could get permission to take a photo of the house - sounds like it's just beautiful and very much what we like to look at...you know us and photos.

Karen, I could probably just park across the street and snap a picture, I dont think anybody would notice. I never see anybody outside to ask anyway.
But I tried searching for these stars and cannot find any sites that have them.
It was so cool because you could just stick it anywhere and didnt have to hang the star on anything.
Now I WANT one bad!!! You know, once you see something different, you gotta have it!! LOLOL
maybe some day I will catch the person outside and ask where she got it. There is not much
around here to buy stuff like that, so I wonder if she ordered somewhere, or if someone
soddered (sp?) it to the wrought iron pole??
I will try to get a pic in the next few days....if this rain would stop, I could walk the dog and then take a pic while I was walking by.... I feel like I need to build an ark or something....LOLOL.....

Jill, I want to see a pic too!!!! Sounds really neat. I would like to do some things to my yard. Hopefully, you will see someone outside and can ask where they got it from. It makes you wonder if the house has changed hands recently. Or, there is a house near the farm that all of a sudden started looking better outside....turns out the man who lived there got remarried. ask and ye shall receive....here is a pic take from inside my truck....you people are making me a criminal, LOL.....lucky I didn't get caught!!

You used to not be able to even see this side of the house....that is how overgrown it was and the pine tree was to the right of this area. I am so glad to see someone clean up their house, it just makes it so nice to look at and they are on a busy corner.

Hey Jill,
Why don't you just walk up to her door and knock and introduce yourself and compliment her decor? I don't know too many people that wouldn't appreciate that! You could talk about your love of prim country decor. Who knows you might find a partner to shop and decorate with. Then you could just ask where she got the star! Is it okay to do that sort of thing in New York? Remember I'm from the south!

Great star! You should have been a detective. Don't worry, if you had been arrested we would have bailed you out...lol! Thanks for sharing with us! Dan

well, I do have to do alot of "detective" stuff at work (insurance billing) so I would probably be good at it. My fellow co-workers and I always tease each other that we should start our own business and be undercover detectives!!
I am not sure about walking up to someone's door.....knowing my luck she wouldnt be home and some other family member would answer and think I was nuts!! Personally, I should live in the south (besides the heat though!) because I would fit right in. Most of us Northerners are a little wound up too tight, LOL. I just dont have the guts to go ask....maybe some day. But I have never seen anybody outside, but then again, I don't go by when they are out and about.
so maybe I will do some checking around this weekend and see if she got it at one of our local garden centers.....ya never know, right???

I've seen those somewhere. I'm guessing Hobby Lobby or Gordmans.

Come to think of it, Jill, I remember seeing some of those, I believe, at Gordman's. They have several different types of garden stakes like that. Do you have a Gordman's there?

LOL, Jill, not sure if it has anything to do with being a born & bred Southern redneck gal, but I'd be waiting in the driveway for whoever to get home.....
Have you tried doing a reverse lookup for the address, to see if you can get a phone number and call them? Or, how about a nice card and plate of cookies on the doorstep, with the question included?
When we needed a new roof, I drove all over town, found a color and type I liked, looked up the address, called the people, found out who did the roof and all about what brand it was, etc., plus paint brand and colors for their siding and trim. They had no clue who I was, but were just as nice as could be and happy to share information. The guy even went out in his garage and rummaged around to find the paint cans, and came back with numbers, etc.
I have stopped out in the country and knocked on doors to ask about plants and flowers, and come away with cuttings and stuff they dug up for me.....
As Tammy said, most people are a bit flattered when you admire their homes, and are willing to share information. Wouldn't you be? Good luck with your sleuthing!

Oh, I think I saw those somewhere too. I like the way they look in that yard. May have to get at least one if I find them again. I will check Gordman's here and see. Cindy

Okay, I checked my Gordman's on Monday and they don't have any. That's not to say they didn't at some time, but they don't now. Cindy

Very very cute and I know I've seen these somewhere, too. I'll post again if it comes to me.
I so agree with you about people cleaning up their yards. We live in a historical district and there are days that I walk my dog and cannot believe how people leave their yards and even their houses. Sadly, there is a beautiful old home down the street from me with so much character and the people who live there hardly ever do anything to it. I know it is going to fall down one of these days and that will be a shame. I wish I could buy it and fix it up but money always seems to be the issue. Everytime I see a house like that I wish I could buy it and fix it up.
I'll keep looking.

Dear Jill, I found a couple of these today at an Alco store. Do you have one of those by you? Only difference is these don't look as big as the one in your picture. Also, the stake isn't as long.

Some people may not be into making their yard look nicer, we have a few like that in our neighborhood, they don't want to do anything because then they would have to keep up with it. I will say that our city is strict though~ your grass has to be mowed, you will get fined if it's not.
I have a few stars that I put in my garden, although I haven't brought them out this year, mine are both red though, I found them at Homegoods a few years ago. They're actually free-standing, and I buried the stand in the mulch.
Hope you're able to find something.

Our local garden center has these stars, but they're aged white. It's called Uncle John's Nursery. Next time I'm there I'll take a peek at the maker.
They're pretty sturdy...I think they're about $18.

Dear Jill, I bought four of these stars and would be more than happy to send you one of them if you can't find one anywhere. Like I said in an earlier post, the stars don't look as big and pretty as the one in your photograph. Let me know.

Oh Lisa, thanks for the offer but there is a store in a nearby town that might have them.
The owners husband makes all kinds of stuff for their shop so maybe he will make some. I will keep
a lookout.
but I have driven by the house a couple of times and saw the lady of the house and she looks
nice, so maybe on of these days I will get brave and stop and ask her.
