000_2406.jpg spill or waste bowl for having tea picture by yardsale09_01

The mark on it says 'The Colonial Co'. But it's not the English company by the same name.  I give up looking!

Blondie, urmysunshine has tons of books, maybe she'll be able to help you with this. It's very lovely, I can see why you liked it.

What does the mark look like? Liverpool Ohio is one of the makers of COLONIAL COMPANY.

That's the mark Sunshine! Not much if anything about the company online. What does your book say about the company? And do you think this is a spill bowl? I'm guessing it is from looking at the little bit of stains on the inside of it. Thanks for looking up the company for me. I was born in the wrong century, I just love this kind of tea things.

I think its a spill bowl.

The bell mark was used by two potteries, both based in Liverpool, Ohio.  Sebring pottery used it from 1905-1920, and the Colonial Company used it from 1915-1930.

Here is a wonderful site you will soon love. I use to go to auctions and always was finding china and antique pottery and this site i found very useful.

Thank you Sunshine! And yes I do love that site! I sure wish you lived near me since we share so many interests. We could spend hours looking things up sitting over a nice pot of tea. I have to post pictures of the cutest little plates I just got from a friend. They look to be very old factory seconds. They really caught my eye just for that reason. They remind me of the hand painted dishes, where the companies would send out blanks to be painted by housewives. I'll have to get pictures for you to see.

That sounds yummy! I have a carnival glass bowl with peacocks on it, I don't put it out much since Grandma always said that anything with peacocks were bad luck to have in the house. Elephants with the trunk down were another no, no! And now my daughter tells me that if you have an elephant, it must face the front door! I often wonder how these things got started.
