I have this hutch that I am painting black. I was thinking about painting the inside with a cream color and glaze it with a black. The inside is like a tongue and groove. I was afraid if I painted the inside black also, that it make it darker inside. Some of my pottery that I am putting in it has dark brown on it. The hutch does have 3 lights inside but I'm not going to have the lights on a lot. What would you do?

Is the tongue and groove in good shape? I'd probably opt not to paint that if it is. I wouldn't do black on the inside for sure. If you must paint it, I'd do the cream color with a stain over that to make it more prim. It sounds like a nice cupboard.

The tongue and groove is in perfect condition with glass shelves. I'll try to get a pictures posted the next couple of days. It is huge.

I say paint it red or mustard. Good luck! ~Dan~

I never thought of mustard. Good call Dan. That is something to think about.

I chime along with Dan's neat idea on painting it a mustard color! With your brown pottery dishwares, that would look really nice! ~Lynn

Here are the pictures. Take in mind I'm painting the room where I have the hutch. I decided to turn the room into my second craft room. So what I was thinking of doing is temporary hang curtains on a tension rod in the hutch and use it for storage until I can get my first craft room organized. Hubby is building me an additional room in the basement just for storage. It will have shelves from top to bottom and some peg board to hang my tobacco lathe. Back to the hutch, I already painted the buffet part but I still have some little things to do yet. So dh,ds, and I place the hutch part on top so I could take pictures. I already started to strip it. After I finish painting it . I was going to distress it. The day I bought the hutch, I also got a matching dry sink with copper top,a huge table with six chairs( 2 with side arms). I got all that for 300.00. I'm have the table and chairs to do after I'm done with this. I don't know what they guy was thinking but he gutted the dry sink out and cut the back out of it. He said he was using it as a wet bar.

I have another confession about the dining room set. I have had for 4 yrs sitting in storage. I never had the time to work on it but now that I'm unemployed. I have all the time in the world to finally finish it. I hope I get to finish it this year but I'm not holding my breath.

Your hutch is going to be so pretty painted black and I like your idea of painting the inside a cream color, it would show off your pottery.

After seeing this pics, I really am on board with Dan's suggestion of the mustard color for the inside. I think it would look great and be really unique. Let us know what you decide to do. Can't wait to see pics of the finished product!
Hugs,
~Donna~
